Da Nang police have temporarily detained Vu Hien, 34, from Gia Lai province, for investigation related to a gold-snatching incident at a jewelry store on Nguyen Van Thoai dtreet, Son Tra district.
On the afternoon of December 5, Hien went to Phu Vinh jewelry shop wearing a face mask and asked to see a gold ring weighing about 5 chi (nearly 70 million VND).
When the shop owner was distracted, he snatched the ring and rode away on a motorbike with no license plate.
Danang detective service, according to the investigation, Hien was in debt and decided to commit the theft.
He used a motorbike borrowed from his girlfriend, removed the license plate beforehand, and after the incident, changed clothes and sold the ring for about 65 million VND.
On December 7, the police identified the suspect, summoned him, and seized the motorbike, a mobile phone, and the 5-chi gold ring. The case is under further investigation.
