Danang: Uncovering a high-tech crime ring led by Chinese

Da Nang city police have dismantled a high-tech crime ring led by a group of Chinese people.

This group collaborated with a number of Vietnamese people to commit property appropriation.

Danang detective, accordingly, the subjects rented an apartment on Ham Nghi Street, Da Nang, Vietnam.

This group used other people’s international payment cards to conduct fraudulent transactions through POS machines, appropriating money.

The police seized many related exhibits such as 11 POS machines, 196 receipts, 3 international cards, 2 laptops and 10 mobile phones.

Expanding the investigation, the police also arrested two more Vietnamese people, Tran Quang Tra and his wife Trinh Thi Khanh Linh, both residing in Thang Binh, Da Nang.

At related locations, the authorities seized an additional 14 POS machines, 15 bank cards and 186 invoices

At Tan Son Nhat Airport, Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City, police arrested Yi Huai Mou, while he was trying to escape.

Yi Huai Mou is the brother of Yi Huai Bin, one of three Chinese suspects who were previously detained.

Young man who beat security guard in HCM released

Tưởng Chí Huy, 26, who drew public attention for assaulting a security guard on Nguyen Hue walking street, was released after his trial on August 7 in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam.

On the morning of February 27, Huy and his girlfriend were walking their dog on Nguyen Hue Street.

When the dog ran around, Nguyen Xuan C. (58), a security guard, tried to intervene by tapping the dog with a plastic stick.

Huy’s girlfriend reacted by kicking the guard, Vietnamese detective.

Huy then pushed and used a metal object to strike Mr. C. on the head, rendering him unconscious and causing 4% injury.

Huy was prosecuted for “intentionally causing injury” and taken into custody.

At the trial, Mr. C. confirmed he had received 100 million VND in compensation and voluntarily withdrew his request for prosecution.

As the case required a complaint from the victim to proceed, and Mr. C. had withdrawn it without coercion, the court dismissed the case and ordered Huy’s immediate release.

Hanoi police prosecute female FDI director for tax evasion

On August 5, 2025, the Hanoi city police department of security investigation officially prosecuted Stephen Ward Kim.

This person is the director and legal representative of Durian company limited.

Hanoi detective, this company has 100% foreign capital, headquartered in Hanoi, for tax evasion.

This company imports raw materials to process into export clothing in the form of temporary import – re-export.

Kim was accused of falsely declaring the tax-exempt subject on the export declaration, leading to a loss of more than 3.2 billion VND to the state budget.

Currently, the Security investigation agency is continuing to expand and clarify related violations.

Man Impersonating Police Officer Arrested for Robbery

At around 7:00 PM on July 31, 2025, Mr. T.S.C., a resident of Si Ma Cai District in Lào Cai Province, Vietnam reported to local authorities that he had been stopped by a strange man who claimed to be an officer of the Lào Cai Provincial Police.

Vietnam detective service, the incident took place in an open lot in Group 26, Lào Cai Ward.

The suspect threatened Mr. C. and stole 3,050,000 VND in cash, a silver ring, and several personal documents.

Within just over two hours of the crime, Lào Cai Ward police, in coordination with provincial investigators, identified the suspect as Đinh Hoài Nam born 1996, Phú Thọ Province, Vietnam.

At approximately 9:30 PM the same day, Nam was arrested with all the stolen property in his possession.

Lào Cai police placed Nam in criminal custody and later transferred him, along with the evidence, to the Investigation Police Office under the Lào Cai Provincial Police Department for further investigation and legal processing.

Phu Quoc: 3 people in the same family arrested for fraud

Three members of the same family have been prosecuted and temporarily detained by the An Giang Provincial Police for allegedly committing fraud in a land scam involving plots near Phu Quoc International Airport, Phu Quoc detective service.

Specifically, Nguyen Quoc Son and his wife, Nguyen Thi Chang, residing in Suoi May quarter, Phu Quoc, are accused of falsely claiming ownership of two land plots measuring over 37,000 m² and 20,000 m², respectively.

They allegedly misrepresented the land as being reclaimed and available for sale, thereby deceiving two victims—Mr. N.V.S. and Mr. P.T.D. and fraudulently collecting a total of 6.6 billion VND.

In reality, these plots are located within the planned area of Phu Quoc International Airport, which was acquired by the government in 2010 and is currently managed by the Airports Corporation of Vietnam.

Earlier, on June 22, the police had already arrested and prosecuted five other individuals from Suoi May—Nguyen Van Dien, Nguyen Quoc Dien, Diep Duy Hao, Diep Duy Dung, and Diep Khanh Quang, in connection with the same case, involving over 10 billion VND in fraudulent gains.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone involved to come forward for leniency under the law.

Gold shop robber claims to be unemployed and in debt

Trần Anh Dũng, 31, a resident of Ho Chi Minh city, was recently arrested by Tân Vĩnh Lộc commune police in coordination with the HCMC criminal police division for investigation on charges of robbery.

At the police station, Dũng confessed that he had been unemployed, heavily in debt, and unable to reclaim his pawned phone and laptop, which led him to the idea of robbing a gold shop.

Around 11:50 a.m. on July 29, Dũng disguised himself with a face mask and covered his motorcycle license plate before entering Kim Phát Nguyên 3 gold shop on Võ Văn Vân Street, hamlet 4, Tân Vĩnh Lộc commune.

He pretended to be a customer and asked to see a gold ring. As the female staff handed over a ring worth approximately 35 million VND, around $1,400, Dũng suddenly snatched it and fled.

The employee chased after him and grabbed his shirt, but Dũng accelerated his bike, dragging her along the street. She sustained minor scratches to her hands and legs.

Upon receiving the report, police quickly reviewed surveillance footage and identified the suspect.

By July 30, they had tracked down and arrested Dũng while he was hiding in Tân Sơn Nhì ward, Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam.

The case is under further investigation for prosecution, Ho Chi Minh detective agency.

Hanoi: Three teenagers addicted to games robbed property

Police in Phu Dien ward, Hanoi, Vietnam have arrested three teenagers: Chu Van Duong , Nguyen Tuan Hung, and Luu Tuan Anh, for investigation on robbery charges.

Vietnamese detective, the suspects admitted they were addicted to video games and billiards, and with no money left, they planned to rob a motorbike taxi driver.

At around 12:20 a.m. on July 25, the group hired Mr. N.V.D. from Phu Tho province, for a ride to a deserted area in Phuc Minh, Phu Dien Ward.

Hanoi detective, once there, they suddenly assaulted and restrained him, stealing his motorbike, phone, and wallet.

The trio fled to Hung Yen, pawned the phone for over one million VND, then regrouped and spent the money.

They later sold the stolen motorbike for nearly eight million VND and discarded the victim’s wallet along the way.

Authorities quickly launched an investigation and, in coordination with Hanoi’s Criminal Police Division, apprehended the suspects.

Da Nang City: Prosecution of former Deputy Chief Justice

Phạm Tấn Hoàng, former Deputy Chief Judge of the High People’s Court in Da Nang (now the Appellate Court of the Supreme People’s Court in Da Nang), has been officially indicted by the Supreme People’s Procuracy’s investigative agency for “Receiving bribes” under Article 354 of the Penal Code.

On July 17, 2025, Mr. Hoàng voluntarily turned himself in and admitted to receiving 140 million VND (approx. 5,500 USD) to influence the appellate ruling of a defendant in a murder case, reducing the sentence by 1.5 years. He also returned the full amount of the bribe.

Additionally, Mr. Hoàng was accused of taking bribes in another cassation case in Quang Tri Province, involving a contract dispute, in which he allegedly ruled in favor of one party.

His indictment brings the total number of individuals prosecuted in the bribery ring at the Da Nang High People’s Court to 27.

The case is being closely monitored by the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption.

Previously, several other officials — including Phạm Việt Cường, also a former Deputy Chief Judge — along with judges, prosecutors, court clerks, and lawyers, were indicted on similar charges of receiving bribes to influence court proceedings.

HCMC: Arrested man who snatched more than 100 lottery tickets

On the morning of July 22, the police of ward 12, Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam, reported that they had transferred Tran Van Khang, 28 years old, resident of Go Vap district to the Go Vap district police for further investigation on charges of robbery.

Previously, at around 5:00 PM on July 21, Mr. N.V.P. 58 years old, from Binh Thuan was selling lottery tickets on Le Duc Tho Street, ward 12, Go Vap district, when a young man approached and snatched the entire bundle of tickets from his hands—more than 100 tickets—then fled.

Mr. P. shouted for help, and local residents joined in the pursuit, Vietnam detective agency.

After about 500 meters, the suspect was apprehended and handed over to the Ward 12 police.

At the police station, the suspect identified himself as Tran Van Khang. Ho Chi Minh detective service, the seized lottery tickets totaled 102.

The case is currently under further investigation by the Go Vap District Police in accordance with legal procedures.

Emergency arrest of man snatching money in HCM city

The Ho Chi Minh city police department has issued an emergency arrest warrant for Nguyen Thanh Hai, born in 1985, residing in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam, to investigate the act of robbery.

According to information from the authorities, the incident occurred on the evening of July 11. At that time, Ms. V.T.H., born in 1993, residing in Thoi An ward, Ho Chi Minh city, went to work.

Ho Chi Minh detective, Their daughter, D.K.N., born in 2014, was looking after the fish sauce shop.

Taking advantage of the time, Nguyen Thanh Hai pretended to go in to buy goods and quickly snatched nearly 500,000 VND from the girl and escaped.

Immediately upon receiving the report, Thoi An Ward Police coordinated with the Criminal Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police to urgently verify and investigate the subject.

At 8:30 p.m. on July 13, 2025, the authorities arrested Nguyen Thanh Hai to continue investigating and clarifying the case.
