Suspect Arrested in Attack on Elderly Lottery Seller

According to investigators, in the early hours of June 12, a 71-year-old man identified as N.V.H. was sleeping by the roadside along National Highway 1 when he was attacked with a hard object.

The suspect then stole approximately VND 1 million (about USD 40). The victim suffered head injuries but was not in life-threatening condition.

Although the victim’s family did not report the incident, police launched an investigation after receiving information from local residents and reviewing surveillance footage that circulated on social media.

Authorities later identified the suspect as Duong Cong Nhac, who had reportedly left his hometown and been living elsewhere for the past two months.

On the afternoon of June 16, police arrested Nhac at a boarding house in Kim Son Commune, Dong Thap Province, and seized several items believed to be connected to the crime.

During questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed to attacking and robbing the elderly vendor.

The case has been transferred to Tay Ninh Provincial Police’s Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and legal proceedings.
