Vietnamese and Lao authorities have arrested a suspect accused of smuggling 15 kilograms of heroin by air.
The arrest took place at around 5:30 p.m. on July 12 at Luang Prabang International Airport in Laos.
Officers from Vietnam’s Dien Bien Provincial Police were carrying out a joint operation with units under the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and Lao law enforcement.
Hanoi detective, During an inspection, they identified a suspicious passenger.
The suspect was caught in possession of illegal narcotics.
Police identified him as Pika Kestutis, born in 1979, a Lithuanian national.
According to his initial statement, he was transporting 15 kilograms of heroin from Luang Prabang to Hanoi on a commercial flight.
The drugs were allegedly intended for distribution in Vietnam.
Authorities seized the entire shipment, along with documents and other evidence related to the case.
Vietnamese and Lao authorities are continuing their investigation.
They are also expanding the case to identify and prosecute anyone else involved.
