Man Charged After Snatching Necklace From Woman With Child

Police in Quang Ninh province have charged a 40-year-old man with property snatching. Vietnamese investigators, the suspect was identified as Ta Tien Dung.

The incident happened at about 7:26 p.m. on July 13. A woman was riding a Honda SH scooter.

Her young daughter was riding with her. They were traveling on Tran Phu Street in Cam Pha ward.

Dung rode his motorcycle close to the victim. He quickly grabbed her gold necklace and pendant. He then sped away.

Vietnamese detectives, the stolen jewelry was valued at more than VND 9.1 million.

Police examined the scene. Officers reviewed surveillance footage and gathered evidence. They later tracked Dung to Hai Phong city and arrested him.

Investigators said Dung had borrowed a motorcycle from an acquaintance before the crime. He noticed the victim wearing a gold necklace. He then decided to steal it.

After the robbery, Dung sold the jewelry to a gold shop for nearly VND 4 million. He spent all the money on personal expenses.

Police seized the motorcycle used in the crime. They also recovered the stolen necklace and other evidence. During questioning, Dung admitted to the offense.
